Long-Distance Trips from Belek: Pamukkale, Cappadocia and Beyond

Most Belek holidays revolve around the resort strip, but Turkey's headline sights sit a long drive inland. Pamukkale's white terraces, the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, the castle at Alanya and the Blue Lagoon at Oludeniz are all reachable from your hotel door. The catch is distance: some are an easy day out, others demand an overnight stay. This guide sets out the real drive times, our fixed private fares and when a car beats a coach tour.

A private transfer is not always the cheapest way to reach these places, and we will say so plainly. For a solo traveller or couple, a group day tour at a few pounds per head often wins on cost. For families and small groups who want door-to-door comfort, flexible stops and no dawn hotel-hopping pickups, our fixed-price car earns its keep. Pamukkale: the classic long day trip

Pamukkale is the long day trip most Belek visitors consider first, and the honest maths matters. The travertines lie around 270 to 279km inland, roughly three to three and a half hours each way. On a single day that means six to seven hours in the car for only three or four hours on site, so an early start is essential.

The reward is genuine: the white calcium terraces, the ruined Roman city of Hierapolis above them, and the Cleopatra antique pool where you can swim among fallen columns. A combined ticket for the site is around 30 euros to check locally, with the pool swim an extra six to thirteen euros. Summer gates open early and shut late, while winter hours are shorter, so verify times before you set off. Cappadocia: an overnight, never a day trip

Cappadocia is the trip people underestimate. The distance from Belek is around 510 to 600km by road depending on the route, some six and a half to seven hours behind the wheel each way. That rules out a day trip entirely: to see the fairy chimneys, the Goreme Open Air Museum and an underground city such as Derinkuyu or Kaymakli, you need at least two full days with an overnight stay.

Most visitors either fly from Antalya to Nevsehir or Kayseri, about an hour and a quarter in the air, or join a two-day coach tour. A private transfer at 480 euros by sedan, 600 by Vito and 750 by minivan makes sense mainly for groups who want to travel on their own schedule, break the drive with stops and keep the same car throughout. The famous sunrise balloon flight is a separate booking, priced from around 150 to 280 euros per person in a standard basket and much more for premium or private baskets, with peak season roughly May to October. Treat all of these as figures to confirm when you book.

Alanya and the eastern coast: easy day trips

East of Belek the coast delivers the easiest long-ish day trips. Alanya sits about 105km away, an hour and ten to an hour and a half on the D400 coastal road, which makes it a comfortable day out rather than an endurance test. The thirteenth-century Seljuk castle on its headland, the cable car, Cleopatra Beach and the Damlatas Cave give you a full day without an overnight. Closer to home, Side blends Roman ruins with a beach town at 45, 55 and 70 euros, Manavgat and its waterfall at 50, 65 and 80, and Aspendos, whose Roman theatre still stages concerts, at 50, 70 and 90. For a day on the water, Koprulu Canyon and its rafting run costs 80, 110 and 140. A private car lets you string several of these together at your own pace.

Fethiye and Oludeniz: the south-west run

The south-west coast is the other big draw, and here the route choice changes the day. Fethiye and Oludeniz lie roughly 200 to 210km inland via Korkuteli and Sogut, around three hours, or closer to 300km and five hours if you follow the scenic coastal road. Either way it is a long single day, and many prefer an overnight to do it justice.

The pull is the Blue Lagoon at Oludeniz, one of Turkey's most photographed beaches, and the tandem paragliding off Babadag mountain above it. A flight of twenty to thirty minutes runs around 75 to 150 euros with photos and video an optional extra, and the season is roughly April to November, all worth confirming locally. If your holiday is really about this coast rather than Belek, note that Dalaman is the natural airport for it, which we cover next. Onward airports: Dalaman and Gazipasa

Two secondary airports matter for these longer regions. Gazipasa-Alanya lies around 145 to 148km east of Belek, roughly one hour forty-five to one hour fifty-five away, and it serves the Alanya side with a short, seasonal flight list. Dalaman sits some 285km to the west, about four hours by road, and is the main charter hub for Fethiye, Oludeniz and Marmaris.

For a straightforward Belek holiday, neither beats Antalya Airport, which is only 33km and 35 to 45 minutes from your hotel at a fixed 25, 35 and 45 euros by sedan, Vito and minivan. Gazipasa and Dalaman come into their own only when your trip is really centred on Alanya or the south-west coast, or when a home-city flight into one of them is much cheaper. Private car or group tour: which makes sense

So which is right for you? The deciding factor is party size. A group day tour is priced per person and hard to beat for solos and couples: our excursion partners run a Pamukkale day from around 25 pounds a head, a jeep safari from 24 pounds, rafting from 14 and a Turkish bath from 18. You accept an early pickup, a shared minibus and a fixed itinerary in return for the low price.

A private transfer is priced per vehicle, so the more of you there are, the better it looks. Split 350 euros for a Pamukkale minivan across six or seven travellers and the per-head cost approaches the group rate, but with door-to-door service, no other hotels on the run, stops when you want them and flight-tracked flexibility. Families with young children, in particular, tend to prefer the private car for its child seats and freedom.
