About Belek — Where You Are

Belek is a coastal resort area on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast, in Antalya Province. The town centre is small — under 10,000 permanent residents — but the resort strip stretches about 15 km of soft sandy coast between Belek, Kadriye and Boğazkent. The closest major city is Antalya, 33 km west, with its international airport. The closest historic site is Aspendos (40 km east), one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the Mediterranean.

What makes Belek different from Side, Lara or Alanya: it is purpose-built for international holidaymakers and golfers. The 5-star resorts here are some of the largest and most lavish in Turkey. The pine-shaded golf courses host European Tour events. The beach is wide and gentle. There is almost no "old Belek" to wander — the town is a 21st-century resort cluster surrounded by farmland, pine forest and ancient archaeological sites.

Tourists from over 50 countries come to Belek each year. The biggest source markets are the UK, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Israel and increasingly the Gulf states. Most stay one to two weeks at an all-inclusive resort and spend the holiday split between the hotel, the beach, the golf course and 2-3 day trips to nearby destinations.

Best Time to Visit Belek

May, June, September and early October are the sweet spots. Daytime temperatures are warm (24-30°C), the sea is comfortable for swimming (22-26°C), and the resorts are full but not jammed. These months also have the best balance for golf — soft enough for long rounds, dry enough to never lose a day to rain.

July and August are peak family season. Schools across Europe are on holiday, resort occupancy is at its highest, prices are at their highest, and daytime temperatures reach 35-40°C. The sea is at its warmest (27-29°C) so beach days are perfect for kids, but anyone over 60 or with sun sensitivity should consider the shoulder months instead.

November to March is the quiet season. Belek does not "close" in winter — the climate stays mild (12-18°C in midwinter), and most luxury resorts and golf clubs stay open year-round. Winter is the best time for serious golfers from Northern Europe: green fees drop, courses are quiet, and a t-shirt round in January is possible. The sea is too cold for swimming for most travellers from November onwards.

Avoid these dates if you can: Turkish national holidays (Bayram weeks in spring and summer — exact dates depend on the Islamic calendar) make domestic prices spike; if you are flexible, check the Turkish calendar before booking.

Getting from Antalya Airport to Belek

Antalya Airport (IATA code AYT) is the second-busiest airport in Turkey and the main entry point for the entire Turkish Riviera. It has two main terminals, T1 (international, most charter flights) and T2 (domestic), with a separate general aviation terminal. Most international flights to Belek land at T1.

The distance from AYT to Belek is 33 km. Travel time by private taxi is 35–45 minutes, depending on traffic and exact hotel location within Belek/Kadriye/Boğazkent.

Transfer options compared

  • Private taxi transfer (recommended): fixed price from €25 sedan or €35 Mercedes Vito, pre-booked on WhatsApp, driver waits at arrivals with a name sign, direct ride to hotel reception. Best for families, golfers and anyone who values time. See full pricing on our transfer prices page.
  • Airport taxi from the rank: yellow metered taxis are available outside arrivals. Reliable but the meter can vary by route and traffic. Typical fare to Belek: €40-55. No flight tracking, no name sign, no luggage help for kids/groups.
  • Shared hotel shuttle: cheapest per-person but very slow — collects passengers from many hotels. A 40-minute drive can become 2 hours. Worth it only for solo budget travellers with light luggage.
  • Rental car: only worth it if you plan to drive yourself for the whole week. Daily rates start around €25-40 in season; petrol is moderately expensive; parking at most luxury resorts is free.
  • Public bus: no direct AYT → Belek public bus. You would need to take a minibus from the airport area to Antalya bus terminal, then an intercity bus, then a local minibus or taxi to your hotel. Roughly 2.5 hours, much hassle, almost no luggage tolerance.

Our recommendation, especially for families, golfers and first-time visitors: pre-book a private transfer. Send your flight number on WhatsApp the day before — we monitor the inbound flight and adjust pickup automatically if there is a delay, with no extra charge.

Where to Stay in Belek

Belek is essentially one long strip of resort hotels along 15 km of sandy coast. There are very few independent guesthouses or budget options — the destination is dominated by 5-star all-inclusive resorts. Choose by guest profile:

Luxury & golf (couples, golfers, premium families)

Regnum Carya, Maxx Royal Belek, Rixos Premium Belek, Gloria Serenity, Cornelia Diamond. All have dedicated golf courses or partnerships, multiple pools, premium dining, beach club service. Expect €350-1500+ per night in season.

Family-focused (kids 5-12)

Rixos Premium Belek (huge water park, lively pool entertainment), Kaya Palazzo, Titanic Mardan Palace (technically Kundu but close), Cornelia De Luxe, Susesi Luxury. Look for big aqua parks, kids clubs, slide complexes.

Boutique & intimate

Calista Luxury Resort, Kempinski The Dome. Smaller scale than the mega-resorts, better service ratios, more adult-friendly atmosphere.

Mid-range

Sueno Hotels, Adam & Eve (adults-only), Bellis Deluxe, IC Hotels Santai. Strong value for money, good food, comfortable rooms.

Regardless of which hotel you pick, the airport transfer is essentially the same — 33 km, 35-45 minutes, €25 sedan or €35 Mercedes Vito. Tell us the hotel name in the WhatsApp message and we will set the correct pickup point (lobby vs. security gate vs. villa entrance). See our where to stay in Belek guide for the full comparison.

  5. Düden Waterfalls — Lower falls drop directly into the Mediterranean. Best seen from the cliff park or a boat.

Best Beaches Near Belek

Belek's own beach is wide, sandy and lined with 5-star hotel beach clubs — most guests don't need to leave. But the Antalya coast offers very different beaches within an easy half-day:

  • Çıralı Beach (110 km) — long pebble-and-sand beach below mountains, boutique hotels, turtle nesting in summer.
  • Kaputaş Beach (215 km) — the most photographed beach in Turkey, turquoise water in a narrow rock gorge.
  • Patara Beach (240 km) — 18 km of empty sand and dunes, Lycian ruins, the most "wild" beach in the region.

For beaches further than 30 minutes from Belek, a private return transfer makes the day easy: see the full beaches guide.

Golf in Belek — Player's Reference

Belek is one of the world's most concentrated golf destinations. Eight championship courses sit within 15 km of each other, all designed by big names. Highlights:

Best Day Trips from Belek

Belek's location puts an enormous variety of day trips within range. Ranked by effort and reward:

  • Half-day, easy: Side + Aspendos (60 km), Antalya city tour (40 km), Manavgat boat trip (40 km), Land of Legends (6 km).
  • Full-day: Köprülü Canyon rafting (70 km), Olympos + Chimaera night tour (95 km), Demre-Myra-Kekova (170 km), Alanya day trip (100 km).
  • Long-day: Saklikent + Patara (240 km), Pamukkale & Hierapolis (270 km, 13 hours).
  • Multi-day: Cappadocia 2-day with hot air balloon (600 km one-way).

For any of these, a private vehicle from your Belek hotel is dramatically more comfortable than a group bus — see the full ranked list in our day trips guide and book on the tours hub.

Food, Drink & Nightlife

Most Belek guests eat at their all-inclusive resort — and many resorts have outstanding multi-restaurant dining. But the real food experience is in Antalya old town, Side harbour and the village restaurants near the canyons.

Must-try Turkish dishes: Turkish breakfast (kahvaltı — eggs, cheese, olives, jam, fresh bread), mezze (small starters), grilled fish (especially sea bass and bream), kebab (Adana, Iskender, döner), pide (Turkish flatbread pizza), börek (filo pastry), and baklava with Turkish coffee. In Antalya, look out for the regional speciality piyaz (white-bean salad).

Nightlife: Belek itself is calm in the evening — the buzz lives at the hotels, the Land of Legends Night Show (45 minutes of fountain/fire/light spectacle), and a short drive away in Kaleiçi, Lara or Kemer. Pre-book a return transfer for evening trips. See our nightlife & dining guide.

Practical Info — Money, Language, Transport

Currency: Turkish Lira (TRY) is official, but EUR and USD are widely accepted. Cards work in hotels and big restaurants. Cash is useful at bazaars and for tipping. Tipping 10% at sit-down restaurants is normal if service is not included; drivers receive €5-10 for a transfer or €10-20 for a tour as discretionary.

Language: Turkish official. English widely understood in tourist services. German and Russian very common in Belek. Our WhatsApp dispatch is multilingual.

SIM / data: Turkish mobile data is expensive for tourists due to import tax on foreign-registered phones. A local SIM (Turkcell, Vodafone TR, Türk Telekom) at the airport gives 20-40 GB for around €20-30 but the phone must be registered within 120 days. For short trips, an eSIM (Airalo, Holafly) is easier — no registration, ~€10 for 5 GB.

Electricity: 220V, Type F/E plugs (same as continental Europe). UK and US travellers need an adapter.

Tap water: technically safe but heavily chlorinated. Locals don't drink it. Bottled water is universal and cheap.

Health: EU travellers are not covered automatically — travel insurance is sensible. Antalya has excellent private hospitals (Medical Park, Akdeniz, OFM) within 30 minutes of Belek.

Transport between locations: for any inter-city or hotel-to-hotel movement, private transfer is the most practical option — public transport works but with multiple changes and long waits. Local Belek minibuses (dolmuş) cover Belek-Kadriye-Serik on a fixed route at low cost.

Belek with Kids

Belek is one of the easiest Mediterranean destinations for a family holiday. The big resorts are designed around children — water parks, mini clubs, family pools, kid-friendly food. Days are organized around hotel time + 2-3 day trips, with private transfers carrying free child seats on request.

Top picks for kids:

  • Hotel water park days — most 5-star resorts have aqua complexes that occupy kids for hours.
  • Land of Legends (6 km) — theme park, water park and famous night show.
  • Antalya Aquarium (40 km) — world's longest tunnel aquarium, snow world, sharks.
  • Manavgat boat & waterfall (40 km) — slow river cruise with lunch, perfect for grandparents bringing grandkids.
  • Side ancient city + beach (35 km) — half-day, ruins to run around in plus a sandy beach.

See the full Belek with kids guide. For family transfers we recommend the Mercedes Vito or 8-seat minivan — strollers and child seats fit easily.
