About this tour
Chimaera (Yanartaş in Turkish) is one of the strangest natural phenomena in the Mediterranean — methane gas seeping from the mountain that has been burning continuously since antiquity. Ancient Greeks believed this was the fiery breath of the mythical Chimaera monster slain by Bellerophon. Today it is a short uphill walk through pine forest to the burning rocks, especially atmospheric after sunset.
On the same trip you visit Olympos, a Lycian-Roman city slowly being reclaimed by the forest at the mouth of a stream that runs into the Mediterranean. The ruins are romantic and quiet, scattered through the trees with a beach at the end of the walk. Many travellers describe this combined evening trip as one of the best memories of their Turkish Riviera holiday.

Frequently asked questions
Is the walk to Chimaera difficult?
It is a 20–30 minute uphill walk on a forest path with steps in places. Comfortable shoes essential. The lower flames are reachable for most fitness levels; the upper flames require an extra 15 minutes.
Is Chimaera safe at night?
Yes — it is a well-visited site with a maintained path and a kiosk at the entrance. Many guests prefer the after-dark visit because the flames are visually striking against the black mountain.
Can I combine Olympos with Kemer or Phaselis?
Yes — Phaselis and Kemer can be added to a longer day trip from Belek. Ask on WhatsApp for a custom itinerary.
