The experience
This combo is the pick for guests who want a proper taste of the Taurus Mountains without giving up two separate days of their holiday. The morning belongs to the jeep: open 4x4s grinding up stony tracks, red dust in the air and long views over pine-covered ridges. The afternoon belongs to the river, where you swap the passenger seat for a paddle and splash, steer and drift through Koprulu Canyon. It is aimed at beginners and families rather than adrenaline seekers, so nobody needs any rafting experience. Children from age 7 have their own £12 rate, and the whole group travels together from pickup to drop-off.
Pickup is at 09:00 from the hotel lobby, and the drive inland takes about an hour, covering roughly 60 km. On arrival your guide-instructor runs through the ground rules before the jeeps set off. Expect several halts along the way where you can climb out, photograph the gorge and dip your hands in the icy river. Lunch is Turkish food served back at the base. Afterwards everyone is fitted with a helmet and life jacket, given a paddling briefing and split into crews for the large inflatable rafts. Wear your swimsuit under old clothes and pack a dry set for the ride home; the jeep leg is dusty and the raft leg is wet, so nothing you care about should come along.
